Capedry Cape Peeled Peach
One of the most memorable pictures of a Montagu summer is rows and rows of inviting yellow peaches drying in the sun, the sweetness in the air is palpable and the sunshine doing its part to preserve this delicious fruit for many future uses.
Cape Peeled Peaches is one of Capedry’s core products and February/March can without a doubt be declared Peach months in Montagu.
Dried fruit is known for its health benefits, thus with a visit to Montagu you will not only find the best dried peaches in the country but also amazing health benefits. A marketing brochure of Montagu from the 1940‘s headlined the road to Montagu as ‘The Highway to Health*. This month we celebrate the fact that ‘all roads lead to Montagu* – but also many roads lead away from Montagu with truckloads of dried fruit.
Annette Reynolds. Marketing Manager of Capedry, explains. ‘Dried Cape Peeled Peaches are low in calories and should be a favourite with people on restricted weight loss diets. Peaches are packed with vitamin C. They contain properties to lower high cholesterol and blood pressure levels. This fruit aids digestion, prevents constipation and more.”
As far as taste goes, this sweet product is perfect to add to your breakfast, salads and traditional South African dishes such as Potjiekos and Bobotie.
Getting back to drying peaches Annette shares. ‘The process of drying is not as simple as it seems.” There are specific pruning processes to maximize the size and yield, strict irrigations plans, hand picking fresh hpe peaches, a mechanised pitting and peeling process, and then the drying. We all know the process of sun-drying, but recently Capedry installed drying tunnels which decreases drying time and gives customers a more competitive product in line with even the strictest sulphur regulations.
The drying tunnels puts Capedry ahead of many other dried fruit businesses when it comes to product innovation and job creation.
Annette explains that “in the off-season these tunnels will supply work for fifteen additional people since we plan product innovations by making our own fruit rolls and fruit flakes.”these tunnels will supply work for fifteen additional people since we plan product innovations by making our own fruit rolls and fruit flakes.”Annette is very excited to share that Capedry 500g Cape Peeled Peach Halves is the only non-house brand dried fruit available at Food Lover’s Market stores countrywide. So go and get your Capedry Cape Peeled Peach Halves at your nearest Food Lover’s Market. Management and Business Partners from Australia
Cape Dried Fruit Packers management and business partners from Australia gathered under a Karoo sunset for a traditional South African meal, as becoming the yearly custom, at the Montagu Bistro on 5 February 2019 – a time to plan, share and collaborate face to face.
The Cape Dried Fruit Packers team were the hosts for the evening, spending time with important role players that help market and distribute delicious South African dried fruit products across the world.
At least once a year. Cape Dried Fruit Packers and business partner Wayne Carroll from Cape Dried Fruit Australia get together to collaborate. International client Sunbeam, represented by Thomas Cheung, is part of this collaboration in South Africa and shared in a lovely evening of Montagu hospitality. Many friendships are sealed around a braai fire and traditional South African meal, as are these partnerships.
They are partners and friends now for 16 years and are learning some local words, important ones, such as Bobotie and Droèvrugte. next on the list is Blaljang – which is no surprize, since dried fruit is their business and Bobotie is a new taste sensation that cannot traditionally be separated from dried fruit; a handful of raisins or a good measure of local Capedry Chutney – that’s perfection!
Cape Dried Fruit owner JP Viljoen explains; ‘It is just great to have them all here at the same time. This is the kind of cooperation that makes our business so successful. We are proud of this 16 year relationship with partners as passionate about dried fruit as we are.”
