This coming Sunday May 28 is the International Day of Action for Women’s Health. If you are reading this and you are a: woman, girl, mother, sister, female friend or colleague – this day is worth celebrating and honouring.
The International Day of Action for Women’s Health was started 30 years ago by a group of women’s rights and reproductive health advocates who wanted women to be treated fairly and safely and with the respect that they deserve. Back then they were fighting for guaranteed access to healthcare, among other things.
All around the world the topic of women’s health is a problem, because women are not properly educated on the inner workings of their bodies and the ‘fuel’ it needs to be the best version it can be.
On this International Day of Action for Women’s Health – let’s look inward as women and educate ourselves on our bodies. Let’s educate ourselves on what we are capable of and let’s celebrate the fact that we are miracle beings, capable of so much more than we get credit for. Let’s try and educate others who may not know as much. And let’s stand up for every woman who is struggling. Our beautiful country is filled with women who have no choice – and that needs to change.
Here are 4 things you can do to help the cause:
- Share your voice on social media. The power of social media to share a message is unparalleled. Post of photo or tweet about women’s health and remember to tag: #womenshealthmatters #may28
- Call your best female friend and invite her for a parkrun over the weekend.
- Plan your week ahead, especially your eating and exercising programs.
- Visit may28.org to educate yourself and see what more you can do!
